How To Teach Your Pet Parakeet How To Talk
If you had your parakeet for some time, you may wonder what kind of tricks you could teach it. One trick that most parakeets learn is how to talk. Teaching your pet how to talk will amaze your family members and friends. In addition, it gives you the opportunity to communicate with your parakeet. Know that you cannot teach your bird to talk overnight. It will take some time for your bird to learn any new words or phrases.
Start teaching your parakeet when you buy it. Just like with human beings, birds are more likely to learn when they are younger. If possible, purchase a parakeet from a pet store that specializes in birds and bird behaviour.
Allow time for your parakeet to get comfortable. Place the cage in an area where it can hear other people talk. Keep it away from children since they might make your parakeet uncomfortable. Once your bird gets comfortable, it will be time to teach him how to talk.
Teach him words with consonants, rather than vowels. “Pretty bird” is a good phrase to start with since “p” and “b” sounds are easy for birds to imitate. Have children help you. Higher voices are easier for your parakeet to imitate.
