Scientifically, it has been proven that the presence of a dog in the family can go a long way toward reducing stress in the household, but what many people don’t realize is that there is plenty more stress to be had when caring for a dog in the early stages. If you watch shows like The Dog Whisperer or get your television through places like http://www.directstartv.com/localchannels/Arizona/P/Phoenix/, then there is a good chance you have seen shows that chronicle the nightmares pet owners endure when their little fluffy bundle of joy becomes a destructive dog.

The key to dealing with a destructive dog is to find out everything you can about the breed of this pup. What kinds of characteristics and instincts are at work in this prized pooch? Is he a hunter? Is he a herder? Most of the time, when dogs are destructive, it’s because they have no proper outlet to address all these needs going on in their minds. We want them to be calm and obedient companions while they want to play, run, stalk or dig. That is why it’s important to put that destructive energy toward less destructive activities. You could try walking your dog more or taking training courses – all are great ways to deal with a destructive dog and, more importantly, will solidify the relationship between masters and pets.

Mischievous, social and curious, ferrets fare best when given sufficient running area to exercise during their waking hours. While they sleep 15 – 20 hours a day, when awake, they want to play and explore. In fact, often ferrets become depressed and dispirited without enough time out of their cages to roam. Providing a running area for your ferret does not have to be a burden, but beware: ferrets are expert escape artists and owners must ferret-proof any space before allowing the ferret free rein.

Many owners find ferret-proofing a single room the best way to accommodate the playful animal’s needs. Leave out the kitchen and laundry room. Ferrets can squeeze through incredibly tight openings and easily find themselves trapped in the inner workings of a washer, dryer or dishwashing machine. Moderately empty rooms with no recliners and fabric chairs with the undersides securely fastened work especially well. Remember, however, that the ferret needs enough places to explore and toys to enjoy.

They love to tunnel, so including sheets or towels in piles and clean, open-ended drainage pipes. Empty boxes also delight the little critters.

An appropriate running area for you ferret will ensure both happy pets and happy owners.

Whether you own a ferret or maybe you’re thinking about owning one, many don’t know that you can teach them to do tricks. Some of the most common tricks that can be taught to a ferret include sit, stay and even come. Like most animals, most of these tricks are going to take some time, but if you know how to properly train them, they will know tricks in no time.

Listed below are a few tips that you can use when you want your ferret to come to you when they are called:

A leash: The first trick that you can use is simply by tying a leash around the ferret’s neck.I found some more information here. You’ll want to slowly drag the ferret to your hand while saying the word “come.” Once the ferret does come your hand, give it a tiny treat and praise it. Continue to do this a few times a day using the same hand motion. After a few weeks, it will slowly get used to this without the leash being used.

Call the name: Since your ferret will have a name, call its name out and if he/she starts making a step toward you, be sure to use positive reinforcement. You can praise it as well as hand out a treat.

Over time, as you use these techniques you will find that it will slowly start to learn what the word “come” means. Take your time, implement these techniques and hopefully it will work!

Your ferret is a playful and affectionate creature who needs to spend at least an hour with you every day. Here are some things to remember when enjoying your furry pet.

Ferrets enjoy being handled, but watch your ferret’s body language for clues. In general, it’s best to let your ferret come to you. A ferret who is busy playing and exploring is not going to be interested in affection and may try to bite you. Remember that ferrets can become frightened by movements that are too quick or too close to their heads.

It’s best to wash your hands before handling a ferret.Get more information here. http://www.odditycentral.com/funny/ferret-legging-a-truly-bizarre-animal-sport.html Your ferret will detect any food smells on your hands or clothes, which could lead to biting. If you’re concerned about being bitten, rub a “bitter apple” product on your hands, which your ferret will find unappealing.

As active and playful pets, ferrets like a variety of toys and interactive games. Most ferrets enjoy chasing (or being chased), playing tug of war, exploring inside empty boxes, and playing with a variety of toys like ping pong balls or paper cups. The range of games to play with your furry friend is limited only by your imagination!

A ferret can be a great animal to have, but like any animal that is going to be running around your household, you’re going to want to make sure that it’s not going to get into any trouble. Since your ferret is going to more than likely be playing with some toys, you’ll want to make sure that you’re giving your pet the right toys. Failing to give them the right toys can result in choking hazards and even death.

Listed below are some toys that should be avoided when owning a ferret:

Treat like an infant: A ferret is very similar to a two year old infant. Before handing a toy to your ferret, ask yourself if you would give this toy to an infant. If you’re shaking your head no, you’ll more than likely want to avoid giving it to them. Since a ferret doesn’t know how to restrain itself, it can get itself into trouble when playing with fragile toys such as small balls and rattles.

The size: The size is going to be the most important thing to consider. Since these animals tend to put just about anything in their mouth, you’re going to want to make sure that all the toys laying around can’t fit in their mouth. As long as the toy can’t break apart and can’t fit int heir mouth, you should be relatively safe with giving it to them.

By using your head and watching what you give your ferret, you’ll find that most of the time your animal will be safe with all the toys around the house.

Ferrets are curious little animals that need things to keep them occupied, and owners should know the safe toys for ferrets. Everything that a ferret is attracted to is not always safe for them to play with. Any toys that are made with latex or rubber should strictly be avoided, even if found in a pet store. Ferrets sharp teeth and easily tear away pieces of this material and end up choking to death. A great toy to get for a ferret is a tennis ball because they are soft but durable. These are also great toys because ferrets cannot bite off pieces of the tennis ball and it is constantly moving which provides hours of entertainment.

Some of the other great toys are cat teasers, ferret kongs, toys that are completely impenetrable on the outside but have jingle bells on the inside. Tunnels are tubes are a wonderful toy to place in a ferrets living environment. Tunnels to a ferret are equivalent to stationary running wheels to a gerbil or mouse. Ferrets love to go to tunnels and tubes for hours and it is very entertaining to them. Ferrets will always be cute and curious but getting them the right toys will keep you and your ferret happy.

There are many people that think that it is absolutely normal for a pet parrot to talk. The thing that most people often overlook is the fact that pet parrots have to be taught to speak. This is something that can be as simple as teaching a puppy to roll over as long as the owner is willing to take the appropriate amount of time and give enough effort.
In order to tech a pet parrot how to talk the owner should always use a positive and upbeat tone when he or she is trying to teach their parrot to talk. Another thing that will help the owner to teach their parrot to talk is speaking to the parrot in small, simple words such as nite-nite, bye-bye, and so on. A parrot will pick up small, simple words much easier than he or she will pick up on bigger words such as cornstalk.
After figuring out which words the owner wishes to teach his or her parrot it is crucial that the owner repeats the word or words to their parrot often. This will make the parrot more familiar with the word and help the parrot feel more comfortable with each word.

A dog is more than just a pet- a dog is part of your family. A dog will provide you with love, friendship, and loyalty. In return you should provide a diet that will keep your dog healthy and thriving. There are so many different types of dog foods advertised, and it is hard to know which one is best for your dog. Ignore the commercials and do some research to find the very best foods for your dogs.

The best diet for your dog is one of whole, natural foods. Items such as fresh meat, fruit, and vegetables will keep your dog in optimal health. This may sound odd, as most people think of dog food as something that comes in a bag or a can, but for 15,000 years domesticated dogs were fed a whole, natural diet. Commercial dog food became popular in the 1930s as a way for companies to use grain and meat that were not fit for human consumption. Studies have shown that dogs that eat a fresh, natural diet live longer and have fewer health problems than dogs that are only fed kibble. With a fresh diet your dog will thrive and show signs of excellent health.

Even though cats groom themselves many times a day this is not enough to remove cat dander. You need to frequently bathe your cat. Use an oatmeal bath to help remove dander flakes.

Remove carpets from your home as they are notorious for being a repository of cat dander. Consider replacing any drapes and or curtains you may have for other kinds of window treatments. These fabrics can be riddled with cat dander.

Vacuum as often as you can. You will need to get a vacuum cleaner with a sealed HEPA filter. Sealed filters trap the dander and not allow it back into the air.

This one is a little tougher but restrict access to your bedroom. During the night you suffer the most from dander especially if it is all around you. You should have all the furniture your cat comes in contact with steam cleaned twice a year.

If you pet or handle your cat you have to wash them as soon as you are done. Also remember not to allow your cat to lick or otherwise have any facial contact with any part of your cat. Try using over the counter anti-histamines to control your allergic reactions.

If you had your parakeet for some time, you may wonder what kind of tricks you could teach it. One trick that most parakeets learn is how to talk. Teaching your pet how to talk will amaze your family members and friends. In addition, it gives you the opportunity to communicate with your parakeet. Know that you cannot teach your bird to talk overnight. It will take some time for your bird to learn any new words or phrases.

Start teaching your parakeet when you buy it. Just like with human beings, birds are more likely to learn when they are younger. If possible, purchase a parakeet from a pet store that specializes in birds and bird behaviour.

Allow time for your parakeet to get comfortable. Place the cage in an area where it can hear other people talk. Keep it away from children since they might make your parakeet uncomfortable. Once your bird gets comfortable, it will be time to teach him how to talk.

Teach him words with consonants, rather than vowels. “Pretty bird” is a good phrase to start with since “p” and “b” sounds are easy for birds to imitate. Have children help you. Higher voices are easier for your parakeet to imitate.
